Soldiers with the 14th Brigade Engineer Battalion (BEB), have been sent out to Northern California to assist with the wildfires.
Currently, they are preparing areas of the Mendocino National Forest for burnout operations. These burnouts are designed to clear away easily combustible debris like dry roots, trees and foliage. The clearing of this detritus material will help prevent the spread of wildfires.
The soldiers with the 14th BEB were deployed at the request of the National Interagency Fire Center, in support of Department of Defense wildland firefighting response operations. The team is working closely with professional wildland firefighters during this state of emergency.
